The Lead-Rite Score is an indicator of leadership effectiveness. It reflects the degree to which leaders are consistently applying wise leadership behaviours that create Focus, Connection, Achievement, and Wellbeing across their teams.
Wise leadership creates an environment where people understand what matters most, feel connected to one another, achieve meaningful outcomes, and experience positive wellbeing. Leaders with high Lead-Rite Scores are more likely to engage and positively influence their workforce, creating psychologically safe environments where people can contribute to organisational success.
The Lead-Rite Score is calculated using a combination of five key metrics drawn from leader and workforce data.
Measures how actively leaders engage with and complete their Lead-Rite learning modules.
Measures the degree to which leaders create clarity around priorities, direction, and what matters most. High Focus Scores indicate that leaders help their teams stay aligned with organisational goals and minimise unnecessary distractions.
Measures how effectively leaders build trust, psychological safety, belonging, and collaboration. Leaders with strong Connection Scores create environments where people feel valued, supported, and motivated to contribute.
Measures how effectively leaders enable individuals and teams to accomplish meaningful goals. It reflects the ability to translate learning into action, celebrate progress, and maintain momentum towards organisational outcomes.
Measures the extent to which leaders create healthy working environments that support the emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing of their teams. Strong Wellbeing Scores indicate that staff are able to contribute positively while maintaining sustainable levels of engagement and resilience.
The Lead-Rite Score should not be viewed in isolation. It is most valuable when considered alongside Work-Rite Scores, workforce engagement, and organisational performance measures.
For example:
A Lead-Rite Score of 85% may appear excellent. However, if only 25% of staff are engaging with the Work-Rite learning, it suggests that leadership behaviours are not yet translating into workforce engagement.
To achieve sustainable organisational performance, three elements must remain in balance.
Lead-Rite and Work-Rite Scores measure the alignment between leaders and the workforce. High scores indicate that leaders are creating Focus, Connection, Achievement, and Wellbeing, resulting in an engaged workforce working towards common goals.
Measures how consistently teams and the organisation achieve strategic objectives and service outcomes. Strong performance is supported by employees who understand their purpose and experience a sense of achievement.
Measures the emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing of employees. Appellon defines workplace wellbeing as the degree to which people feel they are positively contributing, participating, and thriving in their work.
When all three sides of the triangle are performing strongly:
Leaders consistently demonstrate wise leadership behaviours.
Staff are focused, connected, engaged, and achieving meaningful outcomes.
Organisational performance and service outcomes improve sustainably.
When one side weakens, it signals imbalance:
Strong performance but low wellbeing: Results may be achieved in unsustainable ways.
Strong wellbeing but low achievement: People enjoy work but may lack purpose, accountability, or progress.
Strong learning scores but weak organisational performance: Leadership learning is not yet translating into meaningful action.
The goal is to create Focus, Connection, Achievement, and Wellbeing so people can contribute their best while achieving the organisation's purpose.
The Lead-Rite Score measures how effectively leaders are applying wise leadership behaviours that foster Focus, Connection, Achievement, and Wellbeing.
A strong Lead-Rite Score should:
Demonstrate the consistent application of wise leadership behaviours.
Positively correlate with workforce engagement and wellbeing.
Positively correlate with organisational performance.
Provide an early indicator of areas requiring leadership attention before performance declines.
Wise leadership creates Focus, strengthens Connection, enables Achievement, and promotes Wellbeing. The data helps leaders understand where to focus next.
